Which comparison should I use?
Lines for code, lists and data. Words for prose. Characters for spotting single-letter changes in short text.
Can it ignore small changes?
Yes. You can ignore upper and lower case, and for line comparisons, changes in spacing.
How large can the texts be?
Large documents work, but when two texts are almost entirely different, the changed part is shown as one removal and one addition.
