Normalise Audio

Make audio files the right loudness for podcasts, streaming and broadcast, measured the standard way in LUFS. Peaks are limited so nothing clips. Works on many files at once.

Runs in your browser. Files are not uploaded.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop your audio files.
  2. Pick a loudness target and a peak ceiling.
  3. Select Normalise, then download the WAV files.

Questions

Which loudness should I choose?

−16 LUFS for podcasts (Apple and Spotify both recommend about this), −14 for music and video on streaming sites, and −23 for European broadcast. Use −19 for podcasts in mono.

What is LUFS?

Loudness Units relative to Full Scale: a measure of how loud audio sounds to people, not just how high its peaks go. It follows the ITU-R BS.1770 and EBU R128 standards used by broadcasters and streaming services.

What does the peak ceiling do?

Raising the loudness can push peaks past the maximum and cause distortion. A limiter gently turns the loudest moments down so they stay below the ceiling. −1 dBFS leaves room for later conversion to MP3 or AAC.

Why WAV?

So the audio isn’t compressed twice. Convert it to MP3 or AAC afterwards if you need a smaller file.
