Where do the rates come from?
The European Central Bank publishes reference rates each working day at about 4pm Central European Time. They come through Frankfurter, an open-source service. Only the currency and date you choose are sent.
Why is my bank’s rate different?
These are mid-market reference rates. Banks and card providers add a margin or fees, so what you pay or receive is usually a little worse.
Why is there no rate for a weekend?
The ECB doesn’t publish rates on weekends or public holidays, so the rate from the last working day is used.
